Moisture measurements

Our moisture measurements bring a deeper understanding to our thermal imaging and help you gain even better perspective of your location.

Moisture issues in buildings can come from roof or façade leaks, plumbing defects, condensation, or rising damp, and they often remain hidden inside walls, ceilings, or floors until damage becomes visible. Thermal imaging can highlight temperature anomalies, but similar patterns can also be caused by insulation gaps, air leakage, thermal bridges, or wet materials.

To reduce false positives, we combine thermal imaging with on-site moisture measurements at the same time. This helps confirm whether an anomaly is consistent with moisture or more likely related to construction details, ventilation, or insulation. Findings are documented so the next steps, such as targeted inspection or repairs by the appropriate contractor, can be planned efficiently.

Measurement approach

We take a systematic series of readings across the affected area and surrounding reference zones to establish a clear moisture profile. The distribution pattern, including changes across the surface and with height, helps indicate whether the issue is more consistent with a localised source or a broader moisture mechanism. Measurement points are recorded together with relevant site observations, including construction type and surface condition, to support accurate interpretation.

Interperting results

Non-destructive moisture meters commonly provide comparative indications rather than a laboratory moisture content value. Readings may be influenced by material type, surface temperature, hygroscopic salts, conductive substrates, coatings, and recent environmental conditions. We account for these factors in the assessment and present conclusions with appropriate confidence levels, clearly stating where results are confirmed, probable, or require further investigation.

  • Faster identification of the most likely source areas

  • Lower risk of unnecessary demolition and repeat visits

  • Better prioritization of repairs and budgets based on verified findings

  • Improved occupant comfort by addressing the real cause, not symptoms

  • Documentation that supports maintenance planning and landlord-tenant clarity
